Their Royal Highnesses The Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg

Both paintings: Oil on canvas 150 x 100cm

On 3rd of October 2025, Louise unveiled the ceremonial coronation portraits of Their Royal Highnesses Grand Duke Guillame and Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg, to mark their royal accession to the throne, following the abdication of Grand Duke Henri.

The paintings hang in the Ballroom at the Grand Ducal Palace the backdrop to the coronation gala banquet attended by European political leaders and royalty.

The portraits will be on view to the public at the National Museum of Archaeology, History and Art (MNAHA), Luxembourg in January 2026.

Both the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess are depicted wearing the star and sash of the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau. The new Grand Duchess is also wearing one of the royal family’s finest tiaras, the Belgian Scroll Tiara, which was given to former Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte as a wedding present in 1953. Like Josephine Charlotte, Stéphanie was born in Belgium. Stéphanie also pays tribute to Josephine Charlotte, by wearing a set of aquamarine and diamond earrings (with a matching bracelet) that also once belonged to her. Pinned to Stéphanie’s dress is a ribbon-shaped Art Deco style brooch, adorned with diamonds, which has been passed down through generations of the Luxembourg royal family.

Louise - ‘I am deeply grateful for this opportunity that the Grand Ducal Palace has given me to create works that contribute in some small way to Europe's rich visual history. The time I spent during sittings with the Grand Duke and Duchess at the Palace, revealed to me their warmth and approachability as individuals, and their unity as a couple, embodying the dignity and commitment required for this new role.’
