Biography

Louise Pragnell began her training at Edinburgh College of Art and Edinburgh University. There she gained an MA in Fine Art and graduated with a distinction in painting. She was awarded the Andrew Grant Bequest scholarship. She then completed her classical training in Florence, at the Florence Academy and then at Rebecca Harp’s portrait atelier in Piazza della Republica.

Louise works by commission from live sittings, using oil on canvas or charcoal on paper. She has exhibited in solo and group shows across London and has twice exhibited portraits in the BP Award Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery.

Louise has undertaken a number of military commissions, including her portrait of His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent, which hangs in the Main Hall of the Cavalry and Guards Club.   She has also painted the Chief of Defence Staff, General Sir Nicholas Houghton, and the former Chief of General Staff, General Sir Peter Wall.

Louise has completed several large-scale group portrait commissions.  Her three-metre long portrait of 25 officers of the Household Cavalry, was officially unveiled by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, and hangs in the Knightsbridge Barracks.
