David Stewart

It was a privilege to be commissioned by Mark Knopfler and Kitty Alderidge to paint this posthumous portrait of their dear friend David Stewart who lost his battle with covid in April 2020. David set up and managed Mark Knopfler’s award-winning British Grove Studios, which has gained a reputation as one of the best music recording studios in the world.

Mark and Kitty said of the painting "..the portrait is discussed often. We are all enchanted by it.. as the magic of your skill and artistry has re-enlivened our memories of David and placed him so vividly in our minds again. Uncanny.

For Robyn and the boys, it is both a comforting and spiritual experience to have his image so beautifully and hauntingly rendered in oil. For Robyn, it is a deeply affecting experience.. and she is ecstatic about it.

You produced a beautiful and sensitive work.. and there is nothing any of us would change. Even the frame, with its hint of church.. its ecclesiastical glow.. is perfect.
Bless you.. and absolutely hats off!’
